The Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) recently released new construction plans for the development of stormwater retention ponds and the widening of an access road for I-10/State Road 8 in Duval County and the City of Jacksonviille. The FDOT’s new construction plans depict various proposed pond site locations including the recommended sites for these stormwater retention ponds.

To develop its project, the FDOT anticipates having to acquire property from 14 Duval parcels of private property in Jacksonville. To do so, the FDOT has allotted 4.3 million dollars in fiscal year 2013 (which begins in the summer of 2012).

Appraisers for the Florida Department of Transportation to Begin Analyzing Private Property for the State Road 79 Road Widening Project

Appraisers for the Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) have started contacting property owners along the segment of State Road 79 that runs from North of Reedy Branch Bridge to Court Street in Washington County. The purpose of the FDOT’s contact with these property owners is to schedule property inspections to appraise property FDOT intends to acquire.

In the near future, appraisers will complete their appraisals and submit them to FDOT. After these appraisals are completed, the FDOT is expected to begin making offers for the acquisition of private property, and if needed, the FDOT will ultimately initiate eminent domain lawsuits to acquire the needed property.
